Ford Explorer Rollover Injures Three in Iowa
Potential charges are pending against a semi driver that injured an Illinois family Friday causing the Ford Explorer to roll over.The Chickasaw County Sheriff's Office was called shortly after 2 p.m. to a rollover accident at the intersection of 130th Street and U.S. Highway 63.
Authorities arrived to find the Ford Explorer driver, Gary Behrends, 51, and passengers Lori Behrends, 48 and Ashlyn Behrends, 21, all of Pekin, Ill. injured.
According to the family and witnesses at the scene, a semi tractor-trailer traveling south on Highway 63 caused the 2004 Ford Explorer driven by Behrends to swerve off the roadway. The Explorer entered the east ditch and rolled several times. Ashlyn Behrends, who was asleep in the backseat, was thrown from the Explorer. All three were taken to Mercy Medical center in New Hampton for treatment, where they were treated and released.
The semi driver, Richard Norris, 50, of Kennett, Mo., was not hurt. The tractor he was driving was pulling a loaded semitrailer. Both the Explorer and the semi were southbound at the time of the accident. Norris has not yet been charged. This Ford Explorer rollover accident occurred in the early afternoon of 1-12-07.
